Haiti's Future Leaders
Dear Friends of the University of Fondwa (UNIF),
We hope this newsletter finds you and your loved ones well in these troubling times. Without a doubt, your newsfeed these past couple of months has been dominated by serious headlines warning of impending wars and macro-economic doom. Hopefully, this letter can serve as a welcome change of pace from the slough of bad news as the success of our faculty, staff, and students at UNIF serves as evidence that …
Progress and prosperity persist even against headwinds of global unrest, and even amidst the serious challenges in Haiti today.
We have plenty of reason to celebrate considering the achievements of our students in the past few months. In August, many of our talented UNIF students completed their undergraduate curriculum requirements by presenting their theses to a panel of faculty and audience of peers. We could not be prouder of these students who spent the past few years perfecting their analytical skills to provide thoroughly researched contributions to the academic community. As such, we have chosen to highlight a few of these outstanding students to demonstrate the crucial impact of your donations and support in our students’, their families’, and communities’ lives.
Above photo: Jean Phanel (pictured center) presented his thesis: Study of the structure of the functioning of small village savings and credit operations in the communes of Marigot, Belle anse, and Grand Gossier.
Above photo: Anya Carlie Oréus: Study of the structure and operations of local peasant associations in the commune of Jacmel
Above photo: Pierre Richard Geurrier (pictured second from right): Study of the determinants of inequality of household revenue in the communal sections of Fondwa and Savane Dubois.
As you will notice, each of these students focused their research on problems they have recognized in their own rural communities. Their work is the direct representation of the UNIF mission to give back to the community and promises a better future for Haiti, guided by today’s bright and motivated youth.
Though we celebrate the success of current and former students, we are always looking forward. The progress and impact of UNIF has been cemented in the ground–as has our new veterinary medicine clinic! Construction on our new state-of-the-art facility continues with the first floor now complete and moving on to the second.
Remember, all this progress and higher education is continuing to move forward in the midst of many, many challenges in Haiti. That’s just how motivated we are. Thank you for your continued support for the work and students of UNIF.
