Haiti's Future Leaders
The School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Fondwa (UNIF) stands as a beacon of hope and progress in Haiti, being the sole institution of its kind in the country and one of the few in the Caribbean region. What sets this school apart is its innovative approach to education, where students dive into practical learning experiences from the very first day. Unlike traditional programs, where theoretical knowledge often precedes hands-on training, students at the University of Fondwa's School of Veterinary Medicine engage directly with animals and veterinary procedures from the outset.
This immersive learning model not only accelerates students' acquisition of essential skills but also fosters a deep understanding of the practical challenges and realities faced in veterinary practice. As a result, graduates emerge not only with theoretical knowledge but also with the confidence and proficiency to make a meaningful impact in addressing the health needs of animals and communities across Haiti and beyond.
Caring for animals is essential to human well-being as it contributes to economic stability, disease control, food safety, environmental stewardship and nutrition.
At the University's veterinary clinic, students work alongside licensed professionals to gain real-world experience treating livestock. The University Clinic is open weekly Monday - Saturday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
In 2024, the University inaugurated a new structure to house the School of Veterinary Medicine. The new building is equipped with scientific labs and enough room to accommodate the growing number of future leaders who wish to pursue degrees in Veterinary Medicine. The new building is possible thanks to the generosity of the Schroeder Family.
